American Public Health Association Annual Meeting & Expo

APHA's Annual Meeting and Expo is the largest annual gathering of public health professionals. More than 12,000 people attend, and thousands of new abstracts are presented each year, making APHA 2018 the most influential meeting in public health. 

On November 14th (11 am PT), Jessica will present on “Building Women’s Empowerment through Cross-Sector Collaboration in Urban Slums”, as part of the session on International Health Program Social Determinants of Women’s Health. During this presentation, Jessica will explain how to use cross-sector collaboration with community members to create sustainable strategies to increase health and well-being in their environment, as well as outline her design strategy that includes vulnerable communities as co-strategists in resolving the challenges that affect them - referencing her ongoing research in the Old Fadama slum in Accra, Ghana to discuss process, methods, and results.

CUGH 2018 Conference - Pulitzer Global Health Video Competition

Our video Change Agents: Applying Cross-Sector Collaboration received an Honorable Mention in the 5th annual CUGH-Pulitzer Global Health Video Competition: Innovations in Global Health category, which showcases a high impact innovation in global health. It will be featured throughout the 2018 conference, and on the CUGH website and monthly newsletter. The CUGH-Pulitzer Global Health Video Competition Award Ceremony will take place on Saturday, March 17, 2018. Our abstract Building Cross-Sector Collaboration Using Participatory Action Research to Improve Community Health in an Urban Slum in Accra, Ghana was chosen for an oral presentation at the CUGH 2018 conference. The abstract will be published by The Lancent Global Health journal and will be presented at the conference on Sunday, March 18, 2018.
